Sundays in my City-The Morning After

Today, Sunday India woke up on Cloud 9…..the air was warm, the feelings were euphoric and the mood was totally upbeat.

India won the World Cup in Cricket last night…a feat last done 28 years ago in 1983. It has been a long wait with many a slip between the cup and the grip. But Team India did it and Sachin Tendulkar, an all time great player of the game with so many world records, finally added this medal to his shelf full of trophies and a career milestoned with achievements. As a team mate said after carrying the Great Little man on the victory lap, “For over 20 years Sachin has been carrying the burden of Indian cricket. Today we carried him”.

The whole of yesterday was spent anxiously by more than a billion people, praying to all their favourite Gods, SMSing, talking, Facebook and Tweeting and at 10.30 the captain of the side, M S Dhoni hit a sixer to clinch the match and the Cup. The runners up were Sri Lanka who put up a fantastic fight but India won it convincingly.

The streets came alive with jubilant fans, the air was rich with cheers and crackers and the ‘feel good’ factor was at an all time high.

On Sunday, India continues to party!!
