Moms!!

What would the world do without Moms?

Moms, who sing lullabies and help you through infancy and toddlerhood.

Moms to cook and pack nice tit bits into your break box and to make tea at 4a.m. when you wake up to study Social Studies.

Moms to wash and launder your clothes, all starched and ironed, for those painful Sports days, Scouts, NCC and Guide meetings, special meetings, debates etc.!

Moms to clean and pick up after you and to put away things that you cannot find again without their help!

Moms to keep track of everything that concerns you-exam dates, last days for applications, birthdays, anniversaries, dead lines and above all monthly cycle dates.

Moms to say ‘there, there’, never mind and to kiss the hurt away.

Moms to ask you suspiciously, ‘where have you been, whom have you been seeing, who was that on the phone/ bike/car?’

Moms to protect you from the wrath of dads by saying,” The marks are bad because we had that problem with water, electricity-whatever- the day of the exam?

Moms to rush to the defense of offspring when neighbours, relatives complain saying “Who my son/daughter? No way it cannot be. They cannot do anything wrong”. She can say this with a straight face and emphatically aver that her child is an angel and the bad behaviour is entirely due to x,y,z.

Moms to stay up late nights to call out from their bedrooms at the sound of the latchkey, “Is that you sweetheart? Would you like to have something? A glass of milk maybe?” and make you feel guilty at the lateness of the hour.

Moms to embarrass you with tales related to your spouse/friends about your infant peccadilloes.

Moms to rush to Timbuktu to help you pack up/ unpack/ set up house.

Moms to hold basins while you puke your guts out with morning sickness, to cook for you when you have broken a limb or two, or to keep company while your spouse is away at an International conference.

Moms who come for the delivery of your child, to take over the night shift to give you a good night’s sleep even though she may need it more because of her Diabetes, blood pressure etc.

Moms to nag you, caress and hug you, scold you, scream at you and tell you ‘I told you so’.

Moms to show how incompetent and unorganized you are when she can, like the proverbial Godmother, wave a wand and turn your pigsty into a palace.

Mothers to save for you and buy for you-never mind even if she is overly fond of sugar candy pink and purple velvet, roses on china and stainless steel buckets!

Mothers to pray for you and worry about you.

TO ALL MUMS–WITH ALL OUR LOVE! MAY YOUR ILK FLOURISH!!
