Welcome to the Friday Loose Bloggers Consortium where Anu, Ashok, Conrad, Delirious, gaelikaa, Grannymar, Ramana and I write on the same topic. Please do visit the linked blogs to get different views of the prism, colours of the same topic.

Today’s topic has been chosen by your’s truly.

Glory- ‘A state of high honour’ is what my Wordweb dictionary defines it as. Another definition is ‘brilliant radiant beauty’.

The word has many religious connotations—‘glory be to God’ and strangely enough also used as an exclamation!

Glory (religion), in Judeo-Christian religious tradition is the manifestation of God’s presence.

Glory, a term in Christian art for a halo surrounding the whole body of a person.

Glory Be to the Father, also known as Gloria Patri, is a Christian prayer, a doxology or short hymn of praise to God in various Christian liturgies.

Glorification is term for the canonization of a saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church

There are any number of songs, movies, ships, buildings named Glory.

Other uses (Wikipedia)

Glory (optical phenomenon), an optical phenomenon produced by light reflected toward its source by a cloud of uniformly-sized water droplets.

The Glory or the Farr, a king’s divine right to rule in Persian mythology.

Glory, a common translation of the Greek term kleos.

Glory (comics), a comic book character in the Image Comics universe.

Glory (novel), a 1932 novel by Vladimir Nabokov.

Glory (satellite), an earth science satellite which failed during launch in March 2011.

Perth Glory FC, an Australian football (soccer) team.

Glory, the ring name of professional wrestler Christie Ricci.

Take out the ‘l’ and it becomes ‘gory’—bloody with connotations of red that also comes through in ‘brilliant’ ‘radiant’.
